Claytor shot a 147 over 36 holes, good enough for a second-place tie with Harold Varner of Gastonia Forest View. Varner beat Claytor in a playoff, giving Claytor third-place honors. "He played well under tough conditions," Northern Nash coach Hayes Kennedy said over the phone. "He is a consistent player, and he understands the game." NEW 6 Conference foe Wilson Fike won the team championship, while Robert Register (145) of Burlington Williams won the individual title. Claytor recently also was named NEW 6 Conference MVP and was first-team all-conference. Teammates Adam Wesche and Isaih Stamper made the second team, and Byrn Shurbutt was picked as honorable mention. |
