Bardstown won its fourth straight to open the season taking out Marion County on Friday night. The Tigers used a big second quarter on their way to a 95-63 win over the Knights. "We did not get off to a good start," Bardstown coach Gary Goode said. "They play an unusual style. As the game went on our players did a good job of recognizing what we needed to do and we got some easy buckets." The Tigers had three early turnovers and Marion jumped out to a 5-2 lead. The Knights were able to keep up the pressure throughout the first quarter and led 18-15. That would be the highlight of evening for the Knights, however, as Bardstown took over from there. With Corey Hall on the bench in foul trouble Goode turned to Trey Cochran and T. J. Downs to try and solve the press. "We made a great run when they were in the game, they got after it," Goode said. The Tigers sprinted out of the second-quarter gate with a 13-6 run using a full court press of their own. Within three minutes the Tigers had gone from three down to up four and continued to stretch their lead the remainder of the half. Cochran and Downs managed the ball well against the press and the Tigers dominated the boards to outscore the Knights 29-15 in the quarter and take over the game. Another Tiger standout was Jordan Hickman. Hickman had 12 points on the night to go along with six rebounds two steals, three assists and four blocks. "I feel like I can score anytime," Hickman said, "They went on a run and I wanted to take over and we did a good job of running the floor." "Jordan asserted himself more tonight," Goode said, "He is a very capable player." Rashaun Phillips stepped up on the defensive end playing deep on the press and crashing the boards all night long. "Rashaun dominated the boards, was great on defense and against the press, he was key in our run," Goode said. Phillips finished with eight points and nine boards. Logan Edelen and Demarco Phillips had big nights with 15 and 16 points respectively. Phillips pulled down nine boards to go with two steals, one assist and one block. Edelen pulled down seven rebounds, three on the offensive end. Bardstown kept up the pressure in the third quarter using a 13-7 run to stretch their lead out to 20 by the end of the frame. The Tigers cleared the bench after that and extended their lead throughout with 32 fourth quarter points on their way to the win. The Tigers faced John Hardin Saturday night after press time, and host Kentucky Country Day on Tuesday.
