By iHigh Staff of West Jones Jr Sr High School

The Oak Grove Warriors shut out the West Jones Mustangs 6-0 Saturday afternoon at Mustang Field.

Oak Grove took advantage of four Mustang errors to score five unearned runs en route to the victory.

The Warriors scored twice in the first inning on just one base hit.

Scott Ashley led off with a walk and Jeff Palmer reached on a fielder's choice. Steven Moore then reached on an error. Florida State football signee Taiwan Easterling walked to load the bases with one out.

After Ryan McSwain popped up to short, Garrett Braley delivered a two-run single to left field.

Oak Grove added two more runs in the fourth.

With one out, Moore reached on an error and Easterling followed with a walk. Moore then stole third and scored on an error when the ball got away from the third baseman. After a strikeout, Braley lined a single off the wall in left-center to score Easterling and make it 4-0.

In the sixth, Oak Grove's Kirk Lance reached on an infield single, stole second, stole third and scored on a throwing error to make it 5-0.

The Warriors only earned run came in the seventh when Ryan McSwain blasted a home run off the scoreboard in right-center field.

West Jones' best scoring threat came in the fourth when Garrett Moore singled, Andrew Jones reached on a walk and Brandon Holley was hit by a pitch. But with two outs, starting pitcher Devin Brewer recorded a strikeout to end the threat.

Brewer went the first five innings, gave up just two hits and got the win. Tyler Vanderheiden went the final two innings and got a save.

Stephen Smith went the distance for the Mustangs, gave up five hits and struck out five.

McSwain homered and singled for the Warriors, while Braley singled twice. Lance added a single.

Rahn Tew, Traice Hill and Moore singled for West Jones.

The Mustangs, 9-8, host South Jones in a Region 5-4A game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
